He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam Conflict and toured in Germany. He was retired from Estes Express Lines. Mr. Thomas was a member of Gantt Street Baptist Church; he loved his church, gardening, and fishing; and adored his family and four grandsons.
Surviving are his loving wife of 46 years, Patricia "Trish" R. Thomas; daughter Melissa Thomas and special daughter, Andrea Branham; son, Alvine Thomas, Jr., and wife, Lisa; four grandchildren, Steven, Brandon, Chad, and Dustin Thomas; four sisters and two brothers of Tennessee, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers and one sister.
The funeral services were held on Saturday, November 12, 2011, at the Gantt Street Baptist Church (Old Sanctuary), officiated by Rev. Gene Rowell. Interment followed at Bush River Memorial Gardens with Military Rites.
Honorary Pallbearers were the members of Victory Sunday School Class of Gantt St. Baptist Church.
Memorials may be made to Gantt St. Baptist Church, Mission Fund, 2121 Gantt St., Cayce, S. C. 29033 or to a charity of one's choice.
The Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington assisted the family with the arrangements.
The family would like to give many thanks to the caregivers with Harmony Hospice and Helping Hands Adult Day Care of Cayce.
