Evelyn A. Stauffer departed this life of natural causes, Aug. 28, 2011, at the age of 86 years.

At the time of her passing she resided with her husband Wilber at Argent Court in Seguin. She was born June 17, 1925 to Engra and Onslow Nelson of Hayden, Mo.

Evelyn was the second born and the eldest daughter of six children. As a young woman she taught school at Clifty School for a time before her marriage. She lived most of her life in the Hayden and Dixon Missouri area.

She was known as a warm, caring, very hospitable person with a quick wit and a ready response. She loved to entertain and was an excellent baker and cook.

Her home was always the center where her siblings and their families gathered for family occasions throughout the years.

She was a very skilled seamstress and made many beautiful, handmade quilts and crocheted pieces that will be treasured for years.

Evelyn was the avid family historian and loved corresponding and talking with family members across the nation. She was very involved with her church and spent many years volunteering with teaching, record keeping, dinners, and other functions at the church.

After living most of her life in Missouri, she and her husband moved to Texas in 2005 to live closer to son Daniel and his family.

She quickly became involved with life at the retirement community and her new church, making many new friends while staying connected to friends and family far away.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Wilber Stauffer, and two sons and one daughter. They are eldest son Daniel Stauffer and wife Janice of San Marcos, son Stephen Stauffer and wife Sue of Franklin, Ind., and daughter Mary Stauffer of Licking, Mo. She has five grandchildren, Rachel Stauffer of San Marcos, Mitchell Stauffer of Bargersville, Ind., Amy Stauffer Wells of Barrington, RI., Erich Stauffer of Tipton, Ind. and Scott Stauffer of Whiteland, Ind.; 10 great-grandchildren including Thomas, Katherine and Benjamin Wells of Barrington, RI.; Kya, Keilyn and Kira Stauffer of Bargersville, Ind. and Magdalena, Carmina, Kevin and Samuel Stauffer of Tipton, Ind.

Evelyn is survived by four brothers and sisters. They include Lawrence Nelson of Aurora, Neb., Jane Miles of Patterson, Mo, Fred Nelson and wife Carolyn of Denver, Colo. and Stella Caselton of Iowa Falls, Iowa. Also surviving are brother-in-law Leon Eaton and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Onslow and Engra (West) Nelson, sister Anna Eaton and a sister-in-law and two brothers-in-law.

A memorial service will be held for Texas friends at New Hope Baptist Church in San Marcos on Sept. 10 at 11 a.m., with Pastor David Fleming officiating.

Services and interment at Kenner Church of God, Dixon, Mo. will be held at 11 a.m. on Sept. 17. Pastor William Kempen will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to New Hope Baptist Church, 1515 Hwy 80, San Marcos, Texas, 78666 or Church of God St. Robert, 466 Old Route 66, St. Robert, MO 65584.
