Mrs. Carrie Emily Watkins, 83, of Mount Airy died on Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Norman F. Watkins who died in 1986.
Born on Nov. 20, 1920, in Frederick she was the daughter of the late Orry F. and Minnie Clay Runkles.
Mrs. Watkins was a nursing assistant at Pleasant View Nursing Home. She was a 1938 graduate of Mount Airy High School. Mrs. Watkins was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Prudence Lodge #95 Order of the Eastern Star, the Mount Airy 55+ Club, Mount Airy Senior Center and the Top of the Hill Gang in Woodbine. She enjoyed flowers and loved her cats.
Surviving are three children, Dorothy Bloyer and husband, Dick of Biloxi, Mississippi; Allen Watkins and wife Daphne of Davis, West Virginia; and David Watkins and wife Melissa of Petersburg, West Virginia; 11 grandchildren, eight
great-grandchildren, and a brother, Elwood Runkles of Mount Airy. She will also be remembered by her special friends Gladys Schiebler, Arlene Runkles, and Halley Creager.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Aug. 12, at 11 a.m. at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 East Ridgeville Boulevard, Mount Airy, with her pastor, the Rev. Dennis Yocum, officiating.
Internment will be in Prospect Cemetery, Mount Airy.
