Bob was born in Tarrant County, Texas, to the late James and Mary (Lewis) Allen. He is a descendant of Lowery Scrutchfield, who became Bosque County's first judge in 1854. He graduated from Texas A&M University where he received a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. While at A&M he met his future wife, B.J., when he served as judge for a sweetheart contest. He married B.J. Slaughter on June 26, 1953, in El Dorado, Ark., and she has been his sweetheart and wife ever since.
Bob formerly worked for International Harvester in Chicago, and later for John Deere in Iowa where he worked in engineering research and new product design, traveling to Germany, Spain, France, Italy, and the near East. He moved back to Valley Mills in 1984 where he was very active in the community. He helped form the Valley Mills EMS and was the first president of the Valley Mills Development Association. Bob was active in Boy Scouts, Lions Club, Bosque Valley Heritage Society, First United Methodist Church and Valley Mills Cemetery Association.
Survivors include his wife, B.J. Allen; son, James Lee Allen; and a host of friends.
