Raymond graduated with Platoon 2090 from the San Diego MCRD 13 December 1967.
Arriving in Vietnam 1 April 1968 Raymond was assigned to 3rd Platoon, Hotel Company, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division. Raymond died of gunshot wounds to the head and body from sniper fire, while Hote Company was on a combat patrol sweep along the riverbank of Jones Creek and north of Dong Ha, during Operation Napoleon/Saline.
Raymond was single and served his country for 9 months and 17 days and KIA #30,409.
He had been in Vietnam for 3 months and 6 days and was 18 years, 10 months and 26 days old.
Survived by his stepfather & mother, Clarence and Margaret Thompson of 2629 Clara Ave, St Louis, Missouri, and his father, Edgar Bateman of address unknown.
