Thurman P. Farmer, age 89, of Greenfield, passed away on November 21, 2011. Born on April 13, 1922, in Portland, Tennessee, he was the son of Walter P. and Lizzie P. (May) Farmer.

Thurman married Mary Lou Shoemake on October 18, 1948. He worked as a truck driver for thirty eight years for Indiana Naval Stores in Indianapolis. Thurman was a member of the Greenfield Conservation Club, was a Teamsters #135 Union Steward, and was a lifelong democrat. Everybody knew him as "farmer." He loved bluegrass music and played the fiddle. He also loved to hunt when he was younger and was good in "turkey shoots." Thurman also loved gardening and sports.

Additionally, Mr. Farmer was a WWII veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of the 82nd Airborne and served in the Battle of the Bulge in Normandy on D-Day.

Surviving him are his children, Linda Broyles of Markleville, Patty Jo (Tom) Egerton of Ingalls, Mary Jane Dyer of Greenfield, Pamela Kay (Bill) Field of New Palestine, and Lisa Ann (Jon) Meek of Greenfield; sister, Daisy F. Peck of New Jersey; nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his wife; parents; granddaughter, Danielle Wheeler; great grandson, Cody Wheeler; brother, Jimmy Farmer; sisters, Erlene Beauchamp and Mayzell Barnes; and son-in-law, Frank Dyer.
