Politician. Journalist. Ohio State Senator James Hopley was a Ohio Senator, Journalist, and civic leader in Bucyrus, and for Crawford County Ohio. Hopley served in the State Senate of Ohio through three terms. In 1911, he was named Postmaster of Bucyrus, which not only included overseeing the delivery of mail, but also involved inspecting the process of mailing pieces, ensuring the integrity of the postal employees and the handling of Federal (non-law) matters in Bucyrus. For his service to Ohio, and for his service aiding the construction of the Lincoln Highway, one of the highway mileposts we dedicated to him in 1925. Hopley also served as newspaper editor for Bucyrus Evening Telegraph. Upon his death, Senator Hopley's papers were donated to the Ohio Historical Society, now the Ohio History Connection, in Columbus, Ohio.
