Catherine L Shook was The State of Michigan's first female lighthouse keeper. She became the keeper after her husband Peter Loren Shook, the first lighthouse keeper at the Pointe aux Barques Lighthouse just north of Port Hope Michigan drowned in a storm near the lighthouse.
