In the death of Nathan Harvey Biddle, Esq, which occurred at his home in Carmichaels at two o'clock on Sunday Morning, January 16, Greene county has lost one of her foremost and most useful citizens. His death came after but a brief illness from pneumonia. On Tuesday evening of last week he attended the evangelistic services in the C P church, and on the day following he was taken ill with the disease, which proved fatal to him.

He was born in Washington county, Pa, Aug 25, 1829 being the son of Isaac T Biddle, deceased. In 1840 his father removed to Cumberland township, Greene county, in which N H Biddle spent the remainder of his life. Honest and straight-forward in his business dealings, he expected as much from others. He served a director in several banks, was a member of the board of trustees of Waynesburg College and the first vice president of the board. For a half century or longer he was a zealous member of the Cumberland Presbyterian church, contributing of his means liberally to both the college and the church.

He was twice married, his first wife being Miss Lyda Armstrong. Of this union one daughter, Mrs Jennie Flenniken of Dawson, Pa is living, and one daughter Mrs C Fordyce is dead. On Dec 25, 1856 he was united in marriage with Miss Zillah, daughter of J K Baily, who with the following children survive: N M Biddle, Mrs Thomas Patterson and W C Biddle of Carmichaels; Rev. R L Biddle of Donora; Dr. J T Biddle of Washington; and Mrs Russel Horner of Canonsburg. Funeral services were held from the C P church on Tuesday at 2 pm conducted by Rev.
McPhail and Rev. James Hamilton.
Interment at Laurel Point cemetery.
