EASTER EGG LADY MABEL CROOKS
Mabel Crooks, 84, of Moscow, whose Easter egg tree was an annual event for neighborhood children, died this morning at Gritman Hospital, where she had been a patient for a week.
Mrs. Crooks was born Dec. 16, 1897, in Adair county, Mo. Her family moved to the Deep Creek area near Potlatch when she was a child.
She married Orville Crooks Sept. 15, 1915, in Colfax. He worked at the University of Idaho heating plant.
The couple resided north of Moscow, then moved into town in 1932.
She belonged to the VFW auxiliary and to the Gold Star Mothers.
Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Lange of Spokane; Genevieve Nyerges of Bothell, Wash; two sons, Orland of Dodge City, Kan; Emmit of Montara, Calif.; two sisters, Marie Pavel of Moscow; Dorothy Hill of Tekoa; a brother, James Edmonds of Spokane; 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Three sons, Orrin, Raymond and Floyd died previously.
Graveside services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Moscow Cemetery. Pastor Kenneth Berthoff will officiate.
The family suggests that instead of flowers contributions be made to the senior Citizens Center.
Shorts Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
