From the LaFollette Press, Friday, June 13, 1941:

Word has been received here of the death of Corporal Samuel D. Adams of Fort Oglethorpe, Ga. Young Adams was struck by a car while leading his troop of men on motorcycles Saturday at 12 o'clock. Death came Sunday morning at 7 o'clock. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Joe Silcox of Newcomb, two sisters, Mrs. Mose Rutherford and Mrs. Russell Bowman of Vasper and an uncle, Roscoe Prater of Jellico. Funeral services will be conducted at the Vasper Baptist Church Tuesday at 2 p.m. Burial in cemetery there.
