DEATH CLAIMS AN ESTIMABLE YOUNG LADY.
Miss Tessie Smith, Formerly of Cananea, Dies in Deming — Bringing Body Here.
The many friends of Miss Tessie K. Smith, here and in Cananea, will receive the news of her death from pneumonia in Deming on Wednesday morning at 4:25 with deep regret. She was one of the leaders of society in Cananea for over eight years and liked by all who knew her.
The remains will be brought here this afternoon. After arrival the funeral arrangements will be made. The body will be accompanied by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H.S. Smith, who lived in Cananea for some years. Upon arrival. the remains will be taken to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Reinhart, the latter being a sister, and from there the funeral will be held.
Miss Smith was one of the most popular young women in Cananea prior to the revolution troubles, at the beginning of which the family left. While in the camp she was an ardent lodge worker and was a past noble of the Rebekah lodge. She was also a past chief of the Pythian sisters.
Large delegations of both of these orders in Bisbee are desired at the depot this afternoon at 3:10 to escort the body to the Reinsert home. The lodges are also desired to attend the funeral in a body.
November 18, 1913
The funeral of Miss Tessie Smith occurred Sunday afternoon from Odd Fellows hall. Despite rain which descended steadily and heavily, a large number of friends of the deceased attended the funeral and followed the body to the cemetery. A sad feature to the parents and relatives here was the inability of Mrs. May Depew, a sister of the deceased to attend. From her home in Bakersfield came a wire that the state of her health made it impossible for her to undertake the trip. A mass of flowers were sent by her for the coffin of her sister, but these failed to reach the city until yesterday, when they were placed upon the grave.
