John R. Lines was the son of Robert and Betsy Perkins Lines. He married Diana Herndon,daughter of Elliot and Sarah Carter Herndon on March 16, 1829 in Franklin County, Indiana. John R. and Diana Lines were some of the founders of the West Liberty Primitive Baptist Church(Old Stone Church). John and Diana were the parents to a possible thirteen children: Sarah, Robert, Allison, Alexander, Jesse, Tyra, Wiley, Elizabeth, Noah, Elijah, Elliot B., Charlotte and Lewis. With some of this family, the name Lyons is also used.
