He was raised in Belgrade, ME and was a graduate of Belgrade High School. In 1941 he moved to Lancaster where he managed the Connecticut River Dairy for many years. In the 50's he purchased the local Ford dealership, which he operated for several years. He continued a career in the automobile business and was a sales representative for dealerships in Lancaster, Lewiston, ME, and Colebrook. He was a 50+ year member of the Free and Accepted Masons.
On Sept 8, 1935 in Smithfield, ME he married Alice Mary Hardy, daughter of Louis Hardy and Elizabeth Dow. Their children were Mary E and Marjorie A.
Family members include two daughters; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
James died at the Morrison Nursing Home in Whitefield. He was predeceased by his wife Alice Mary (Hardy) Alexander and a son-in-law Tom Conway, husband of daughter Marjorie.
