She married Lester Curtis Griffen on June 3, 1939, in Fall Creek. The couple lived in Chicago until retiring and moving to Augusta in 1974. While in Augusta, Mildred was an active member of the Augusta Assembly of God Church. Mildred later moved to Bourbonnais, Illinois, to make her home with her daughter.
She is survived by her daughter, Jan Gifford and fiance Vincent Skibins of Bourbonnais; three grandchildren, Debbie (James) Steward, Frank Sedlock and Angi Sedlock, all of Illinois; three great-grandchildren, Trinity, Cassidy and Jayden Steward; three extended-family members, Dominique, Tyrese and Shaunte Gifford; caregiver and friend, Odessa Harvey.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lester, on June 20, 1982; by two sons, Darroll and Terry Griffen; three brothers; and seven sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 6, 2003, at the Augusta Assembly of God Church, with burial in West Lawn Cemetery, Augusta.
Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. Saturday until time of services at the church.
