Mrs. Nellie M Preble, 83, of North Whitefield, passed away late Monday evening at the home of her son, Wilbur H. Preble, in Randolph. She was born in Chelsea, Dec. 24, 1867, the daughter of Ruben Blackman and Mary Ann McGugan. She was the widow of James E. Preble and had lived in North Whitefield nearly all her life, sixty years of which were in the home she loved so well. Mr. and Mrs. Preble were members of Whitefield's oldest families. "Aunt Nell" as she was known by all of her neighbors, will be fondly remembered by those who knew her.
Surviving besides her son are a daughter, Mrs. Ralph Putnam of Randolph, a sister, Mrs. Gertrude Preble of North Whitefield, five grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
A Requiem High Funeral Mass was sung at 9:00 o'clock Thursday morning, by Father Alfred Mulkern at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Gardiner. Bearers were three grandsons, Kenneth, Burleigh and Lindsey Putnam, and a grandson-in-law, Alfred Fyfh. The body was placed in the vault at Staple's Funeral Home to await burial in the spring in the Preble Cemetery, North Whitefield.
