In 1857 Joseph and Hannah and those two children had their surnames legally changed from Morang to Hoyt, and records of this family will be found under Morang, Hoyt, Hoit, and Morang-Hoyt. Subsequently James and Hannah had 3 more children, all born in Pittston, who were given the Hoyt surname at birth: Charles W. b. 25 December 1859, Mary A. b. 30 December 1860, and Wilbur E., b. 28 August 1863.
By at least 1866 the marriage had ended. Despite the fact that both parties remarried to other partners in 1866, they were not legally divorced until October 1875. On 21 February 1866, intentions of marriage were published at Whitefield between Mrs. Hannah F. Hoyt of Pittston and James Preble of Whitefield. A marriage record has not been located, but Hannah and James Preble were living together in the 1870 USC , with their two sons. James Hoyt had also taken his third wife, Anna Christine Chamberlain, who he married in Boston on 10 July 1866.
Following the 1875 divorce of Hannah from Joseph A. Hoyt, marriage intentions were again published at Whitefield between James Preble and Mrs. Hannah F. Hoyet (sic) on 8 December 1875, and a marriage is on record 28 December 1875 at Whitefield.
James Preble and Hannah Frances MOODY Preble had three Known children:
James E. (1863-1931), Benjamin W. (1869-1925), and Nettie F. (1877-unk.)
