Roderick D. "Rod" Coffman, 47 of Hobbs, New Mexico passed away on December 5, 2011, in Hobbs, New Mexico. He was born February 26, 1964, in Hobbs, to Delbert and Glenda Lee Coffman. Rod married Cristie Porter on June 28, 1993.

Survivors include his wife Cristie; his daughters, Samantha Sims and Jessica Gray of Tucson, AZ; his mother Glenda Lee Coffman of Glendale, AZ; his sister, Debbie Smith and husband Jerry of Glendale, AZ; his brother, Lee Coffman of Kerrville, TX; his mother and father-in-law, Jerry and Treva Porter of Carlsbad, NM; his brother and sister-in-law, Lane and Lori Porter of Carlsbad, NM; his nephews, Michael Lee Coffman and wife Alina of Austin, TX, Chris Smith and wife Jennifer of Phoenix, AZ, Jeramy and Jaxson Porter of Carlsbad, NM; his nieces, Melissa Hansen of Buckeye, AZ, and Amber Porter of Carlsbad, NM; his beloved pets, Zoe, Diego, Arthur and Gypsy. Rod was preceded in death by his father, Delbert David Coffman.

Rod was born and raised in Hobbs, New Mexico, attending Southern Heights Elementary, Heizer Junior High and Hobbs High School – Class of 1982. Rod graduated from New Mexico Junior College with an Associate in Arts and attended University of the Southwest and University of Virginia. Rod was a graduate of the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy and the FBI National Academy in Quantico, VA. He began working as a child for the family business, Del's Texaco, and later at AAA Glass before beginning a twenty-five year career in law enforcement. His career began in 1986, with the Hobbs Police Department with Rod serving as Sheriff from January, 2007, until his death.

Rod enjoyed traveling and cherished quiet time at home with Cristie and their animals. Rod was a blessing to everyone who knew him.

Rod was passionate about his career in law enforcement. He was a member of many boards and committees including, Lea County Drug Task Force, Lea County Communication Authority, Fifth Judicial Law Enforcement Association, FBI National Academy New Mexico Chapter, Hobbs Chamber of Commerce, Community Drug Coalition, Southeastern New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy, Local Emergency Planning Committee, New Mexico Sheriffs' Association, Western States Sheriffs' Association, and Hobbs Rotary.

Rod wished that memorial contributions be made to the Lea County Humane Society, PO Box 1192, Hobbs, New Mexico 88241.

How lucky we were to have had someone that makes saying goodbye so hard.His career began in 1986, with the Hobbs Police Department with Rod serving as Sheriff from January, 2007, until his death. Serving for twenty-five years in law enforcement.
