TWENTY - SECOND WARD SUICIDE.

Mr. John Alderson Drowns Himself in an Ice Pond.

This morning at the early hour John Alderson, an old and highly respected citizen of the Twenty-second ward, committed suicide by drowning, it is supposed. For some time past Mr. Alderson has been despondent, in consequence of financial reverses, and it was noticed by his friends that these troubles lately settled on his mind. He was an administrator of an estate in which the accounts balanced against him, and was also one of the unfortunate stockholders of the United States Bank, which went by the board soon after the Financial Panic of 1873. This morning about 2 o'clock Mr. Alderson escaped from the house and it is believed proceeded to Succop's Ice Pond, three or four hundred yards distant, and threw himself into the water. The pond which is ten or twelve feet deep, was dragged this morning by friends of the deceased, and his body was found. The Coroner was notified, and will hold an inquest this afternoon.

LOCAL BRIEFS - Pittsburgh Post Gazette, September 25, 1878.

Mr. JOHN ALDERSON, a gentleman well known in commercial circles, is supposed to have drowned himself in Succop's Pond, in the 22nd Ward. Tracks were found leading directly from his home to the edge of the water, and a party of men were engaged in dragging for his body yesterday morning.
