Leonard was the son of Johnannes Groninger and his wife Agatha Stefelmeier/Steifelmeier/Sheftermeir.
Leonard was born on June 30, 1723 and baptized on March 29, 1724, at Kuchen, Germany. He emigrated from Kuchen, Württemberg, Germany, and arrived in America on the ship "Lydia," from Rotterdam on October 19, 1749.
He married Elizabeth Deishman (or Swartz) at Lewisburg, PA sometime prior to 1753.

The other family settled in Wisconsin, from whence a descendant is a current "cousin." Most of the people in the United States with the above listed surnames descend from these Kuchen emigrees.
