Leonard Francis was born in Southington, CT and graduated from Southington High School in 1936. He attended Yale University, where he earned a degree in engineering. During World War II, he served in the US Navy as a member of the Seabees, seeing action in the Pacific Theater of Operations.
Mr. Francis was the founder and Director of Camp Leo, Gilmanton NH, from 1946 until 1983. He was also the founder and Headmaster of St. James School, Berlin CT, from 1954 to 1978. At the time of his death, he was a resident of the Veterans' Hospital at Manchester, New Hampshire.
