WEBSTER - Donald "Don" Loterbauer, 91, Webster, died Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010, in a care center at Bristol.

Funeral services were March 4 in Christ The King Catholic Church at Webster.

Burial was in St. Otto's Cemetery.

Memorials may be designated to the World War II Honor Flight.

Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster was in charge of arrangements.

He was the eldest of 11 children born to Frank and Emma (Stern) Loterbauer June 6, 1918, in Loyalton. At a young age, his parents and their four children moved to a farm near Crandall in two railroad cars. He attended country school. He grew up in hard times with the Depression and drought, which had a great impact on his life. As a member of the "Greatest Generation," he proudly served during World War II in the U.S. Army, spending time on Attu Island in Alaska. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal with one Bronze Battle Star, World War II Victory Medal, two Overseas Service Bars, American Theater Medal and one Service Stripe. After his discharge in 1945, he farmed in the Crandall and Lily areas.

June 18, 1948, he married Trace Gebur. They had no children. They made their home in Webster, where he was employed by Floyd Knight Construction for 37 years. Following retirement, he mowed lawns, did snow removal, gardening and wood construction of lawn ornaments. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. On his 90th birthday, he was able to visit the farm where he was born.

He was a member of the Engebretson Lien Post 156 American Legion of Lily and the Webster VFW Post 4690.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1998.

Survivors include four brothers, Edward (Leatta) Loterbauer of Bozeman, Mont., Raymond (Esther) Loterbauer of Watertown, Glen (Jeannette) Loterbauer of Webster and Robert (Rita) Loterbauer of Bristol; two sisters, Irene (Bob) Howell of Aberdeen and Francis Dewey of Belleville, Kan.; and special family members, Kayla, Dylan, Dan and Peg Kirchmeier of Webster.
