LaVern Alexander Lorbiecki, age 58, Kaukauna, died Sunday, January 31, 1999, at his home following a battle with cancer. He was born November 12, 1940, in Bancroft, Wisconsin, son of the late La Vern J. and Theresa (Belka) Lorbiecki. The family moved to Oshkosh when he was one year old, where his father worked as a laborer for a trunk and luggage company. His mother was a baker at the University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh. La Vern was baptized Catholic and attended the parochial school of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Oshkosh, completing eitht grades of education there, as well as serving as an altar boy in church. He was also confirmed at St. Peter's Catholic Church. He graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1958 and the University of Oshkosh in 1962, with a B.S. Degree in Music and a minor in English. He received his Mater's Degree from VanderCook School fo Music, Chicago, 1969, and did post graduate work at the University fo Illinois, Aurora, and the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

In 1962, La Vern was the choral and instrumental music instructor, K-12, at Reedsville for five years. In 1967, La Vern became the Band Director and Instrumental Music Instructor at Kaukauna High School, completing 24 years of leadership in the high school setting. In 1991, he took a position at Electa Quinney Middle School and Tanner Grade School, working with fifth and sixth grade children's instrumental music. He retired in November 1995, due to health reasons.

La Vern was a member of the Kaukauna Education Association, the Wisconsin Education Association and the National Education Association, belonging to the 25-year club in Kaukauna.

Survivors include his wife, Mary J. Schaefer, Kaukauna; 3 daughters and a son-in-law; Stefanie Lorbiecki, Sapulpa, OK, Anne (Jeff) Meyerhofer-Gruett, Kaukauna, Kristine Lorbiecki, Appleton; 3 sisters and brothers-in-law: Audrey (Harold) Rhyner, Oshkosh, Grace (Jim) Thoma, Oshkosh, Terri (Rick) Neals, Brookfield; 7 grandchildren: Amanda, Adria, Aaron, Alizabeth, Drey, Quintin and Dante; 4 nieces and a nephew; his special friend, his dog, "Kelsey" and many other special friends. He is further survived by his wife's family: grandmothers, Nell Schaefer, Kaukauna, Renata Vandenberg, Little Chute; her parents, Eugene and Jane Schaefer, Kaukauna; and her brothers and a sister-in-law: William (Beth) Schaefer, Kaukauna, and Robert Schaefer, Menasha. La Vern was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and a brother-in-law, Kenneth Schaefer.
