Richard "Dick" LeRoy Humphrey, 81, of Prineville, passed away Nov. 26, 2011. There will be a Celebration of Life held on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2011 at 1 p.m, at the Vets Club in Prineville.

Dick was born Feb. 7, 1930 in Oskloosa, Kansas to Clifford and Madeline (Cary) Humphrey. In 1940 his family moved to Bend, where Dick attended Bend High School.

He worked as a bell hop at the Pilot Butte Inn, and he was also in the CCC. Dick was a member of the Army transport and enlisted in the Navy in 1947 where he was stationed as a gunners mate on the USS Salisbury Sound. While in the Navy, he received his GED. After being discharged, he took his apprenticeship as a machinist at Hyster Company in Portland. He married his lifetime partner, Betty Jane Antonson on Dec. 23, 1952 in Stephenson, Wash. He worked at Marine Iron Works in Tacoma, Wash. and left there in 1974. Then he worked at the Puget Sound shipyard in Bremerton, Wash. where he and Betty lived on a boat and did a lot of cruising. Dick retired from Puget Sound due to disability in June of 1989 and moved to Dolan Springs, Ariz. until in 1999 they settled in Prineville.

Dick enjoyed motorcycles, drag racing and fishing. He was a past governor of the Moose Lodge in 1972 and a life member of the VFW and American Legion.

Dick is survived by his wife of 59 years Betty Humphrey of Prineville; sisters, Marjorie Clark of Bend, and June Johnson of Everett, Wash; godson, Jim (Kitti) Carnes.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Madeline Humphrey.
