Funeral services for Walter S. Hastings, 60, well known tobacco farmer and chairman of the Republican Town Committee for sixteen years until his resignation last fall, will be held Saturday at 2:30 p. m. at the First Church. Mr. Hastings, one of Windsor's leading citizens, died Wednesday at his summer home: Brockway's Landing, Lyme.

Reverend Roscoe Nelson, pastor emeritus; and Reverend Theodore E. Frank, pastor of First Church, will officiate. Washington Lodge, A. F. and A. M., will conduct the burial service in Palisado Cemetery. Bearers will be members of the lodge.

The body will lie in state at Merwin and Leek funeral home, on Poquonock Avenue, tonight and Friday.

Born in Hartford, he came to Windsor about forty years ago, and was first employed by the old Eddy Electric Manufacturing company. He later became a farmer, and rose to a prominent position among independent shade tobacco growers. Mr. Hastings represented the Connecticut Valley Farmers Shade Growers Tobacco Association,at several hearings in Washington. At one time, he was a member of the firm of Filkins and Hastings, a coal, ice, and trucking concern.

A member of the Metropolitan District Commission since its organization, Mr. Hastings had also represented the town in the Lesislature, and had served as deputy sheriff.

Mr. Hastings served in the Spanish - American War with Company F, First Regiment, CNG; and, on his return, he was active in forming and developing the Windsor Veteran Battalion, of which he served two terms, as commander. He also played an important part in the observance of Memorial Day, and for several years, was marshal of the annual parade.

His illness prevented him from participating in last year's parade, for the first time in thirty years. Mr. Hastings was also active in obtaining the Patriot's Memorial on the Green.

He was a member of the Hartford Lodge of Elks, a charter member of Palisado Lodge, IOOF, and one of its first Noble Grands; a member of Washington Lodge, A. F. and A. M., a former member of the Wampanoag Country Club. He was active in the disbanded Winpoq Fish and Game Club.

Mr. Hastings was also a director of the Windsor Federal Savings and Loan Association, and served on numerous committees. His philanthropies were numerous, and were carried out unostentatiously. From his sick bed last Christmas, he provided for them, as usual.

Washington Lodge, A. F. and A. M., will meet Saturday at 1:45 p. m. at the Masonic Hall, to attend Mr. Hastings' funeral.
