Nikolaus Ternes was in Russia on June 23rd, 1865; in the area of present day Odessa, Ukraine, to parents Lorenz/Lawrence Michael and Rosina (Sohn) Ternes.

In 1894 he immigrated to the USA and finally to North Dakota.

He married Otillia Kopp who was also born in the same area as Nikolaus (They both immigrated in the same year, so I am assuming that they were married when they came over)

They had a total of 12 known children:

-Antonia (John's daughter)

Nikolaus died on May 2nd, 1928, in North Dakota (Most likely Emmons County)
