Raleigh, NC — After a courageous 1 year battle with breast cancer, Ada passed away peacefully at Rex Hospital's Hospice wing on the morning of October 23, 2009. Ada was born and raised in Conway, NC and graduated from Conway High School in 1955. Ada worked for the NC Legislature for 30 plus years, and most recently was the Legislative Assistant to state representative Van Braxton. Ada was one of 3 children born to the late Edward Barnes Sr. and Jessie Mae Barnes of Conway, NC.

Ada was preceded in death by her sister Ella Mae Barnes who went home to be with the Lord and her family in August 2001. Ada was devoted to her family, having fun with her friends and long term neighbors, enjoyed the beach, in addition to shag dancing, and shopping. Ada touched the lives of many people with her smile and generosity, and maintained her trademark sense of humor all the way to the end.

Ada will forever be remembered by her devoted brother Edward Barnes Jr., husband James Finch, and daughters Lynn Edwards, Lisa Edwards Richardson and her husband John Richardson, step grand children Holly Conner and Audrey Richardson, step great grand children Devin and Bryce Conner, step sons Chris Finch and Brian Finch, along with countless other friends and family whom were blessed to know Ada.

Visitation will take place on Monday October 26, 2009 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm EDT at Brown Wynne Funeral Home located at 1701 E. Millbrook Road in Raleigh, NC. Funeral services will take place Tuesday, October 27, 2009, at 11 am at St. James Methodist Church on New Hope Road in Raleigh, NC. Graveside services will take place in Conway, NC at 4:00 pm at the local cemetery.
