Albert Garnsey enlisted as a Private in Company B of the Fourth Michigan Volunteer Infantry on June 20, 1861, for 3 years service. He was wounded in action on June 27, 1862, at Gaines Mill, Virginia, where his brother Roswell, was killed. Albert re-enlisted on February 18, 1864, and was wounded in action at Bethesda Church, Virginia on June 3, 1864. He was on detached service with Company B of the First Michigan Infantry, by order, on July 2, 1864 and promoted to Corporal on September 1, 1865. Albert transferred to Company C of the Reorganized Fourth Michigan Infantry on July 1, 1865 and was on duty as Turnkey at prison in San Antonio, Texas, December of 1865. He mustered out of service and was honorably discharged on February 26, 1866.
Albert died of gangrene / diabetes on December 13, 1899.
