DEATH CAME UNEXPECTED
Aunt Polly" Arvin Died at Home of Her Daughter In This City Early Sunday Morning
Mrs. Mary Arvin, more commonly called "Aunt Polly Arvin", widow of the late James P. Arvin, died at the residence of her son-in-law, Philip McGovern, in this city at 5:30 Sunday morning.
Deceased was born June 6, 1831, being nearly seventy-eight years old at the time of her death. Her maiden name was Miles and she was born in Brown township, this county. She was married in 1849 to James P. Arvin of Daviess County and she and her husband settled on a farm in Reeve township, Daviess county, where they resided until 1888 when they removed to this city. To their union were born two children --Mrs. Philip McGovern of this city and Thomas Hillary Arvin of Reeve township-- both of whom survive. Her husband died in July 1905, since which time she has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. McGovern. Deceased had two brothers and three sisters all of whom are now dead except one sister, Mrs. John McGovern, of near Whitfield.
Her death came as a severe shock to all her friends as she had really been in better health during this winter than usual, and even on the night before her death retired later than was her custom. At 5 o'clock Sunday morning she called the members of the family and told them she had been sick for a few minutes. They immediately summoned the doctor but she was beyond human relief and died at 5:30, she having relapsed into unconsciousness almost as soon as stricken.
Mrs. Arvin was a most estimable christian woman and was loved by all who knew her. She leaves a host of friends who sympathies are extended to the family in this their hour of bereavement.
She was always a devout Catholic and the funeral services will be held at 9 o'clock this morning with requiem high mass at St. John's church this city; burial at the side of her husband in St. Martin's cemetery at Whitfield.
