Henry Banks Allen
TIFTON - Henry Banks Allen, 88, of Tifton, died Saturday, April 24, 2004, at Tift Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Memorial Chapel of First Baptist Church. Dr. W. Ches Smith III and Dr. Wayne Roe will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Born Jan. 7, 1916, in Tift County, Mr. Allen was the son of the Rev. Lyman Banks Allen and Ora Connell Allen, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Willis Bryan Allen.
A Navy veteran of World War II, Mr. Allen was a graduate of Tifton High School and received a bachelor of arts degree from Mercer University in 1939. At various times during a lifetime of public service, he farmed, taught public school, was principal of Ty Ty Junior High School and was Tift County school superintendent. He served in the Georgia House of Representatives from 1962 to 1966 and was a former member of the Tift County Board of Education, Tift County Hospital Authority, Tift County Board of Health and Tifton-Tift County Library Board.
He was a member of First Baptist Church, Tifton Kiwanis Club and Woodmen of the World, and was a recipient of the Liberty Bell Award presented by the Tifton Bar Association.
He is survived by a son, daughter, two brothers, four sisters, his grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals is in charge of arrangements.
