U.S. Congresswoman. . She attended South Carolina Coeducational Institute, graduated from Greenville Female College, in 1907 and was a teacher. In 1938, she was elected as a Democrat to fill the vacancy caused by the death of her husband, Congressman Allard H. Gasque, serving until 1939. She also was the first woman from the State of South Carolina, be elected to Congress. Not a candidate for election, she served as a member of the South Carolina Senate, and was an author-lecturer. She died in retirement at age 103.
