I made this memorial for Lizzie who was my g.gr.mother, the mother of my gr.pa Fred Hill, also Robert & James Craig who died as children and Ola Mae & Rosa Belle Craig. I know she's buried in this Cemetery from family info. but I nor any others have been able to find a grave marker for her or a location of her burial. Lizzie's parents, Thomas Lamkin and Bettie McCraw married in Tipton Co. TN in Apr. 1869. I believe Thomas Lamkin was in Tipton Co. TN visiting his older sister Martha, she and her McCraw husband had moved to Tipton Co. shortly after the Civil War had ended. So Thomas and wife Bettie had a dau. Carrie in 1871 then Thomas moved them to Virginia, they had a son George Thomas, a dau. Martha Virginia (Mattie) then Lizzie. Their mother Bettie died from consumption which back then was TB. Thomas marr. again and Lizzie was raised with a stepmother.
Lizzie married a Hill prob. in 1895, so far, no idea for sure who he was, she and gr.pa Hill are in the home of a family in Carroll Co. VA on the 1900 census under her maiden name of Lamkin. It was told by my Gr.pa Hill that Lizzie's Hill husband was mean to her and Gr.pa and that her father Thomas sent Lizzie and children to Tipton Co. TN to his sister Martha Lamkin McCraw to live. Gr.pa Hill said he had a baby sister named Mattie Hill born in VA too and that she died after Lizzie brought them to Tipton Co. but he didn't know where Mattie was buried. I was told by a Craig cousin that there is a Mattie Hill listed in their family Bible that died Dec. 31, 1900.
Lizzie married Ed Craig in 1902 under the name of Lizzie Hill so either she divorced the Hill husband or he died. Ed Craig's mother and Lizzie's mother were sisters making Ed and Lizzie first cousins.
Ed and Lizzie had 2 sons named Robert and James and both died as children, had 2 daughters, Ola Mae and Rosa Belle, lived to be grown, married and had children of their own. I knew them to be Aunt Ola Mae and Aunt Rosie when I was growing up.
It is told that Ed and Lizzie were separated for several yrs. before she died. It is also told that Lizzie was chopping cotton all day and came in and got a severe headache and died so I'm sure she had a massive stroke.
I was also told that Lizzie was a kind and wonderful person so God Bless you gr.ma Lizzie, your g.gr.daughter, Kay.
