John Howard was Sheriff of Essex and Hertsford Counties. He lived during the reigns of Henrys IV and V.
He married 1st Margaret Plaiz who died 1381, she was the daughter and heiress of Sir John Plaiz, of Tofte, Norfolk and Stansted Mountfichet, Essex.
He married 2nd in 1383 Alice Tendring, daughter and heiress of Sir William Tendring, of Tendring Hall, Stoke by Nayland, Suffolk. He died on a pilgrimage in Jerusalem on Nov 17, 1437. His remains were returned to Stoke-by-Nayland, Suffolk County, England
