Construction partner in Benson & Vest Construction, c 1950s and 60s, of many single family homes in south Arlington and Pimmit Hills, with Alfred Teddy Vest. Construction partner with Alfred Teddy Vest, Fred Gosnell, Sr, Fred Gosnell, Jr and James Gosnell in the Arlington Building and Development Company, which built the former Lee Shopping Center, 2201-2227 North Pershing Drive, Arlington, Virginia, a fine local architectural example of Art Deco limestone styling of 10 stores, designed by noted architect Allan Dickie, destroyed with Arlington County Board approval c2010, to make way for a multi-story mixed use mid-rise structure under construction now, cMar2012, despite local civic group attempts to have the facade saved and incorporated in the new structure.

An avid outdoorsman, he was credited with having hunted all of North America's big game animals. Arvid was a member of the Arlington Rod & Gun Club. All of his trophy taxidermied animals were donated to Virginia Polytechnical Institute and State University, Blacksburg, Virginia.
