Mercedes Elizabeth Thibaut Smith, 88, a resident of Thibodaux and native of Donaldsonville, died at 1:50 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 11, 2011.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until service time on Wednesday at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church. Mass of the Christian burial will begin at 11 a.m. at the church, followed by burial at St. John the Episcopal Cemetery.
She is survived by one son, F. Michael Smith III and his wife, Collette;
One daughter, Genie Smith Mueller and her husband, Harry; one brother, David D. Thibaut; three grandchildren Kristen M. Masiel and her husband, Matthew, Justin M. Mueller and his wife, Erika, and Stephen A. Mueller; one great-grandchild, Abigail Masiel; and two step-grandchildren, Heath Vizier and his wife Addie, Shyla Vizier.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. F. Michael Smith, Jr.; her parents, Dubourg and Vivian Kleinpeter Thibaut; and two brothers, James H. Thibaut and Thomas A. Thibaut .
She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-Grandmother. She was also and avid lover of animals.
