BOWENS, Allen Rudolph, of Tappahannock, Va., age 88, departed this life December 5, 2011 in a Richmond hospital. He was an educator for many years. He served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1946. He taught in the Essex County School System. He was a principal in Middlesex County and retired as the Title 1 coordinator for the Middlesex County School System. He is survived by his wife, Gladys Bowens; two daughters, June Jallah (Abraham) and Beverly Barco (Andre). Visitation will be held Friday, December 9, from 2 to 7 p.m. at Washington Funeral Home, 1404 Tappahannock Blvd. Funeral service will be held Saturday, December 10, at 11 a.m. at St. John Baptist Church on DeSha Rd., Tappahannock, Va. The Rev. Linwood Jones, pastor, officiating. The interment will be in the church cemetery. Service of comfort entrusted to Washington Funeral Home, Tappahannock.
