Linda Hobwood's words on the Internet, "William Wallace Dow was born in Pennsylvania September 18, 1818. He came with his family to Missouri, leaving there with a sister and brother and headed for the Gulf taking a ship around the Cape to San Francisco, California ending up in Oregon Territory at a place near Starrs Point, later became known as Monroe, Oregon. Taking up a land donation claim William married Eliza Jane Stark on Dec. 3rd or 8th, 1857, in Benton County, Oregon. Eliza had come with her family by way of the plains arriving in Oregon territory I believe around 1851, and settled on their land donation claim in 1854. They were neighbors of William W. Dow. From what I was told, the brother and sister of William went back home."
Roland said that William Wallace Dow Sr. owned a ship with his brother and sister and traveled back and forth from the east coast, around the horn and to San Francisco and Seattle making money by shipping supplies and people. In 1848 they arrived in Oregon and at some point sold the ship and William stayed in Oregon while his sister and brother traveled back to PA.
Children of William Wallace Dow and Eliza Jane Stark are as follows:
Almon Asa Dow
Sarah Melinda Dow
Anne E. Dow
William Wallace Dow Jr.
George Henry Dow
Mary Ellen Dow
Prentis Major Dow
Oscar A. Dow
Minnie Florence Dow
Julian Monroe Dow
