∼My Aunt Gemmye has just gotten her Angel Wings. She found out about 3 weeks ago that she had Lung & Brain cancer. When I went to see her @ the hospital a day or so after she found out, she told me she was ready to go home. She was so brave & didn't seem to be afraid @ all. She was in my life for the 1st 13 yrs of my life.. I remember spending many nites @ her house. She pierced my ears when I was 12. She took me to Church many times, she even spanked me once.. LOL.
After the 1st 13. yrs.. the family kinda of "split up" and I didnt see her much after that except @ funerals & @ a couple of family get togethers. But, during the past few weeks of her life I got to spend lot's of time with her. Holding her hand, touching her face, brushing her hair back with my hands & telling her that I love her. We even talked about old times...things that happened in her childhood and my mom's. We talked about love & how sad it is when families are torn apart...the wasted yrs.. it causes. When I last saw you on thursday [the 8th] I told you I had to get Casey home & in bed. You squeezed my hand real tight & didn't let up for several mins. I guess you wanted me to stay longer & I wish that I had.
I told you I would be back the next day but, then I came down with a severe headache & have been in bed with it since. Maybe you squeezed my hand so tight because, you knew it would be our last time together.. Maybe it was because, you just wanted a few more minutes with me.. Your resting now & no longer sick & for that I am happy. But, sad that our time together was so short.. I will always regret that I didn't get to spend time with you until there was no time.
I will cherish these last few weeks with you Aunt Gemmye & always be thankful for them as well.
