Kate was the daughter of Thomas J. Dawson and Isabella Cochran. (Note: LDS marriage record spells "Isabelah Cockerham, April 5 1832, Rutherford County, NC)

Kate had a sister Elizabeth M Dawson who married Joseph S Shipman. Their mother died before 1850 when their father married Nancy E. Wilson, May 21, 1850.
Other siblings who appear on the 1850 census Asheville NC are Nancy N 12, Thomas M 8, Lavinia M 6, Joseph S 5, Martha A. L. 4.
Martha Ann married Frank M. Shipman, August 4, 1865 Henderson County NC.

Kate married widowed Sion Blythe Osborne McCall, January 11 1865, Henderson County, NC.

The 1900 census, widowed, living in Blue Ridge, indicates she had 11 children with 8 living.

(Note: their daughter Callie Ruth married Joseph Getty King, she lived to be 106.)
