Mrs. Grumann, nee Caroline (Lena) Sonntag, was born on April 16, 1879, at Two Rivers, daughter of the late Fred and Josephine Musil Sonntag. She was married at Two Rivers Oct. 24, 1896, to John Grumann, and early contractor and extensive land owner on Two Rivers' north side. In 1928, the family left Two Rivers to engage in farming at Cavour, Wis., and returned in 1947. Her husband died at Two Rivers in 1954.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Andy Bull, of Milwaukee, Mrs. Mildred Popp, of Two Rivers, Mrs. George Raasch of Wauwatosa and Miss Grace, of Manitowoc; three sons, Harold, of Atlanta, Ga., Helmuth, at home and John Jr., of Tomah, Wis.; a sister, Mrs. Minnie Steinhauer, of Two Rivers; a brother, Ernest Sonntag, of Two Rivers; a stepbrother, Frank J. Hess, of Two Rivers, 12 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.

Frederick was born at Steinbach, Germany 20 March 1845; died at Two Rivers, Wisconsin 27 June 1912. Josephine died at Two Rivers, Wisconsin 4 November 1896. Frederick married second, at Two Rivers, Wisconsin 20 September 1902, Walburga BENZINGER HESS. Walburga was born in Baden, Germany 23 February 1853; died 30 January 1929, resided at 438 Plankington Ave., Cudahy, Wisconsin. Walburga married first Frank HESS 1 August 1875. Frank died 1 April 1899 at Two Rivers, Wisconsin [Pension Application for Walburga based on Frederick's Civil War Invalid Pension status].
Her father, Frederick, enlisted as a private on 15 February 1865 in Company D, 48th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment, discharged 19 February 1866 at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas. Frederick was a member of the GAR, 26 June 1886 [Dr. L. Falge, p. 427, History of Manitowoc County, Wisconsin, 1907].
