Celestine Trevella Cates was the daughter of William G W Cates (c.1815-1867) and his first wife Martha A Bronston (c.1822 to 1852-1855).
Martha was the orphaned daughter of Jacob Bronston & Nancy Hollyman of Lexington, KY, reared by her uncle Thomas Springer Bronston of Richmond, KY.
William G W Cates was the probable son of Richard Cates & Margaret Sever.

There are few records of Celestine Trevella Cates Mann:

Trevella was born after the 1850 Census in Athens, Gentry Co, MO and never enumerated with her parents.

Her mother, Martha may have died at Trevella's birth or shortly afterward.
Her father married Sallie Willis in 1855 Barren Co, KY; and then returned to MO where he had several land patents.

As was often done in those days Wm Cates placed his previous children with other families when he took a new wife - Lucy lived with his brother Richard in 1860; but I did not find Margaret and Trevella in 1860.

William G W Cates served in the Civil War in 43rd MO Infantry. He died 22 Mar 1867 in Buchanan Co, MO of lung disease contracted during the Civil War.

In 1870 Trevella was a servant in the home of O. W. Tenno in Doniphan Co, KS, just across the river from Buchanan Co, MO.
She was married there on 22 Jan 1871 to Greenberry B Mann, s/o John Mann & Mary Victor.
She died 7 months later on 20 Aug 1871, and was buried in the Ephraim D McClelland family burial ground [Ephraim was a close neighbor of GB Mann's stepfather Isaac Fleek].

Trevella's stepmother's 1890 pension application mentions that William G. W. Cates had a child named "Celestine T. Cates" from a previous marriage.

What happened next:

Her husband, G B Mann, married Ellen Amanda Abbott and had several children. He is buried in Bellemont Cemetery, Wathena, Doniphan Co, KS.
Her sister, Lucy Ann Cates, married Frank Lucus and moved to Idaho and then to Oregon.
Her sister, Margaret E "Maggie Cates, married Thomas Henry VanSchoiack and lived in St Joseph, MO.
Her half sister, Eleanora Amanda Cates, married William Edmunds Gleaves Allen and moved to Colorado.
