GREEN BAY, Wis. - Carl J. Gardiner, 89, of Green Bay, formerly of Norway, died Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011, at San Luis Medical & Rehabilitation Center in Green Bay.

He was born on Feb. 14, 1922, in Stephenson, the son of the late Michael and Alice (Nadon) Gardiner.

Carl served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He worked as a metal fabricator and layout man at Lakeshore, now Oldenberg Group, for 37 years, retiring in 1983. Carl loved golfing, fishing, hunting and was a jogger. He would jog up to 10 miles a day. He was a member of St. Barbara Catholic Church in Vulcan, Third Order of St. Francis and Oakcrest Golf Club.

Carl is survived by his wife, Geraldine Gardiner of Norway; sons, John (Kris) Gardiner of Green Bay and Jerry Gardiner of Dover, Del.; daughters, Valerie Behnken of Windsor, Colo., Ann (Dennis) Arbenowske of South Lyon, Cindy (Tom) Vernosh of DePere, Wis., and Lois (Randy) McMahon of Green Bay; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; former wife, Ione Gardiner of Iron Mountain; brothers, Henry Gardiner of New York, Bernard (Ursula) Gardiner of California, William (Carol) Gardiner of Arkansas, Charles Gardiner of Iron River, Joseph Gardiner of Seattle, and Gene Gardiner of Pennsylvania; sisters, Alice Kadletz of Kingsford, and Donna Mae Friedman of Georgia; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, Carl John Gardiner; daughter, Victoria Kay Gardiner; brothers, Michael, Francis and Wilford Gardiner; and sisters, Carol Gardiner, Stella McNeal and Joan Dugas.


The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 1 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church with Fr. Timothy Ekaitis, presiding.

Interment will be held on Monday, Dec. 19, at the Quinnesec Cemetery.
