Burial will be in City of Lubbock Cemetery under the direction of Ossie Curry Funeral Home in Lubbock.
He died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003.
He was born Oct. 2, 1924, in Paris, Texas. He married Martha Lou Brown on Aug. 26, 1949, in Tyler. She died Sept. 10, 1989. He married Juanita Newman Todd on Aug. 9, 1997, in Madison, Wis.
He was a longtime resident of Lubbock and a retired electronics maintenance technician with the U.S. Postal Service. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the Navy in the South Pacific theater. He was a prize fighter in New York and Chicago.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, La Trala White of Tulsa, Okla., Pamela Akpotaire of Sugar Land and Jerane Gibson of Lubbock; two sons, Elvin of Lubbock and F. Dewayne of Arlington; six stepsons, Clarence, David, Kenneth, Michael, Jeffrey and Mark Goldsby, all of Madison; and a stepdaughter, Marchel Goldsby Hill of Madison; five sisters, Imogene Walker of Oklahoma City, Katherine Allen of Tulsa, Okla., and Julia Mae Ballard, Ernestine Allen and Erna "Niffle" Martin, all of Corsicana; and a brother, Shirley Gene Martin of Corsicana; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
