Mrs. Holly Adams Pioneer, Dies in Napa
Mrs. Holly D.R. Hudspeth Adams, widow of John Adams, died in Napa yesterday, and the body will arrive here tonight. Mrs. Adams was the mother of Lynchberg Adams, formerly of this city, and now of Richmond, and grandmother of Mrs. Mary Hopper.
Mrs. Adams was a pioneer of Sonoma county, and for many years lived on the Adams place near the Frank Steele property. She was a member of a southern family who came to Sonoma County in the early days. In 1852 Mrs. Adams was married in Sebastopol. Eleven children were born, and those who survive her are Mrs. Ben McIntosh, Napa; Mrs. Del Sanchez, Alameda; Mrs. H. Hall, China; Lynchburg Adams, Richmond; Charles Adams, Oakland; and Lee Adams, Fresno.
Mrs. Adams has been at the home of her daughter, Mrs. McIntosh, in Napa, for several months, and it was at the McIntosh home that she died. She frequently visited at the Adams home here when the family made Santa Rosa their home, and friends of the family remember her.
Mrs. Adams was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, in 1873, which made her 83 years of age at the time of her death. Besides the surviving children there are 11 grandchildren, including Mrs. Mary Hopper and Mrs. John Warboys of Richmond, and four great-grandchildren, including Mrs. Portia Hopper.
Mrs. Adams was a member of the Methodist Church, and the burial service of that organization will be said at the funeral. She was a charter member of the Grange, and took an active part in the community welfare.
Bereavements are coming rapidly in the Adams family. Mr. Adams was a former employee of the fire department, but several years ago moved to Richmond, where Mrs. Adams, his wife, died.
