Services for Bessie Mae "Bess" Arthur, 88, of Lubbock will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003, at Sanders Memorial Chapel. Officiating will be Fred Arthur, Jr. Interment will be in the City of Lubbock Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home.


Ms. Arthur died, Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003. She was born to the late Lillie and Dan Burgett on Sept. 23, 1915, in Bristow, Oklahoma. She moved to Lubbock in 1956 from Vernon. She attended schools in Altus, Okla. and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Lubbock.


A daughter, Lucinda Burkhart preceded her in death on Aug. 29, 1992, along with five brothers. Survivors include a son, Fred, Jr. and wife, Mary Arthur of Lubbock; a daughter, Shirley and husband, Jerry Houlette of Lubbock; a sister, Ethel Kennann of Amarillo; seven grandchildren, Deborah Smith, Eric Smith, Khristi Swinney, Angie Carrington, Toby Buchanan, Troy Buchanan, and Tracy Burkhart; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
