MRS ARCH BAKER
Mrs. Arch Baker, a lifelong resident of this vicinity, died Sunday morning at her home on Fifth Avenue, her death resulting from diabetes and heart trouble. She was 65 years old at the time of her death.
Mrs. Baker had been ill since Christmas, only a part of the time confined to her bed, and was able to be about the house a little and eat breakfast as usual Sunday morning. About 9:30 o’clock, she went into the living room where she had a bed and lay down to rest. Mr. Baker looked into the room later and noticing that she was apparently asleep, left her to rest, but after a while when he taught she had rested longer than usual he went into the room and upon touching her found that she was dead. She had been in the room alone about an hour, so that the exact time of her death is not known.
Lovina Adeline Bolt was born in Washington Township, Montgomery County, Iowa, November 17, 1856, and was married to Arch Baker in Red Oak on January 13, 1876. To this union were born three children. They are Mrs. S. W. Selley, Oakley, Kansas, Mrs. J. A. Dunn, Villisca, and Mrs. J. T. Myers, Norfolk, Nebraska. Besides her husband and children, she leaves also three brothers, Jas. M. Bolt of Washington Township, John M. Bolt of San Antonio, Texas, and Ed Bolt of Billings, Montana; two sisters, Mrs. R. W. Morris and Mrs. August Jacobson of Villisca; three half brothers, T. J. Bolt of Wagon Mount, New Mexico; Fred and Chas. Bolt of Villisca; and a half sister, Mrs. H. E. Smith of Sciola.
Mrs. Baker was a member of the Presbyterian Church, holding her membership with the Presbyterian organization at No. 10 schoolhouse in Washington Township where she was superintendent of the Sunday School for fifteen years.
The funeral was held at the Presbyterian Church in Villisca, Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock with Dr. A. P. Walton in charge of the service. The pall bearers, all nephews of the deceased were Park and Frank Morris, Archie, Chester, and John Baker, George, Gus and Ray Dunn. Burial was in the Villisca Cemetery.
The singing at the funeral was by Harold, Todd, Fred Gerlach, Harold Nordyke, and Howard Peckham. Those who were here from a distance to attend the service were Mr. and Mrs. S. W. Selley and children, Martin, Jane, and Marjorie, Oakley, Kansas; Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Myers, Norfolk, Nebraska; Miss Lena Selley, Mr. and Mrs. Park Morris and Frank Morris, Omaha; Mr. and Mrs. E. F. Selley, Farragut.
