Raymond A. Winfrey
Raymond A. Winfrey, 69, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, May 23, 1995, following a heart attack.
Ray was born to James W. and Jessie M. Winfrey on Dec. 27, 1925, on a farm north of Burlington in the Happy Hollow community.
He attended the Cook one-room school in Yuma County through the eight grade, and high school in Burlington.
On Nov. 18, 1944, he was united in marriage to Beth Miller, and to this union one son, John, was born.
During World War II, he served time in the U.S. Army and spent some time overseas.
In 1951, he moved his family to Des Moines, where he worked with his brother Irvin in the tire and automotive business until a couple years ago, when he retired as sales manager for OK Tire Co.
His parents and two brothers, Jim and Floyd, preceded him in death.
He leaves to mourn his loving wife Beth; son John and wife Amy of Micanopy, Fla.; three grandchildren----Josiah, Kelsey and Cody; three brothers----Everett of Tacoma, Wash., Virgil of Yates Center, Kan., and Irvin of Des Moines, Iowa; three sisters----Iva Barnhart of Edgewater, Mabel Davis of Kanorado, Kan., and Lola Rhoades of Burlington, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
