Verna B. Manning of Bay City, passed away December 16, 2011 at her home at the age of 87 years. She was born in Lansing on November 28, 1924 to the late Howard and Bessie (Vaughn) Dunckel. Verna was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving during World War II. She was employed for many years at the St. Vincent DePaul Store.

On April 8, 1946, Verna married Bruce H. Manning and he preceded her in death on September 14, 1978. Survivors include 3 children: Bruce (Linda) Manning, Carol (Joel) Matthew and Tom (Lori) Manning, 7 grandchildren: Bruce (Jenn) Manning, John Manning, Jeremy (Jacki) Manning, Ashley (Jason) Wiedyk, Allison (Josh) Hartley, Kyle Manning and Andrew Manning, 4 great-grandchildren: Bruce and Emma Manning and Chase Matthew and Sophia Wiedyk, and 3 brothers: Ronald (Katherine), Donald (Harriet) and Robert (Veralee) Dunckel. She was preceded in death by a sister, Donna Casler.

Funeral service will be on Monday at 11 a.m. at Penzien-Steele Funeral Home. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4-8 p.m. and Monday from 10 a.m. until service time. Private interment will be in Elm Lawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
