George was always upright, honorable, congenial and kind, he was much loved by those who knew him best and he left many firneds and relatives. He was a fiddler when younger and played for many dances and they both danced until recently. With the passing of George Riley Ellis there goes from among us one of our pioneers, one of those who helped rebuild a good United States after the Civil War. All through their 56 years of married life, George and Phebe as they were known to their friends, have been an anchor among us. Their home has opened to those needing a haven, their table has spread for gatherings of relatives and friends and their hearts have stood strong and true to help those in need or distress. We have lost a dear one, a good friend, a worthy citizen, and a noble man from our midst." Written by Wiltsee Ellis.
George Riley Ellis died at the age of 97 years, 10 months and 9 days.
