The inscription on his tombstone states he was a Major in the U.S. Army.
NY Times obituary states he was the son of Son of Judge and Mrs. John S. Candler, and the nephew of Asa G. Candler.

Photograph that appeared with the article "Candler Begins Law Practice," the ATLANTA CONSTITUTION, 23 June 1907, page 6. Asa Warren Candler, the only son of Judge John Candler, had earned his Bachelors in philosophy from Emory College in 1905. In 1907 he received his Bachelors in law from the University of Georgia and was beginning the practice of law in Atlanta.

One of two photos that accompanied the article "Two Edgewood Pupils Win Handsome Prizes" (ATLANTA CONSTITUTION, 31 December 1899, page 10). Asa W. Candler and Harry Edwin Shepard were among the winners of prizes offered during the state fair by the American Book Company. Asa won $40 for an essay he wrote about the mineral and manufacturing interests of Georgia.
